"Toy Tune" is an instrumental jazz composition by Wayne Shorter, recorded by a quartet with Shorter on tenor saxophone, Herbie Hancock on piano, Cecil McBee on bass and Joe Chambers on drums. The performance took place on June 14, 1965, at Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, and was produced by Alfred Lion. It is the third track, running 7:24, on the album Etcetera, which Blue Note did not release until 1980 (catalogue LT-1056). A CD reissue followed in 1995. The piece is usually classed as hard bop or post bop and is in the key of F. Later recordings include versions by Tony Purrone, Orrin Evans, Danny Grissett, David Binney, Denny Zeitlin, and Larry Goldings, Peter Bernstein and Bill Stewart.
