"Woman in Love" was written by Barry Gibb and Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees. Barry Gibb recorded a demo of it in 1979, which was first released in 2006 on the compilation The Guilty Demos. The best-known version is by Barbra Streisand, whose 1980 album Guilty was made after she asked Barry Gibb to write material for it following the Bee Gees' success in the late 1970s. The song was the album's lead single, released in August 1980 on Columbia with "Run Wild" as the B-side. Produced by Gibb-Galuten-Richardson at Middle Ear in Miami, the recording features Barry Gibb on acoustic guitar, and he also wrote the horn and string arrangements. It reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, Streisand's fifth number one there, and spent five weeks at the top of the Adult Contemporary chart. It sold more than 2.5 million copies by December 1981 and is her greatest international hit. The writers received the 1980 Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically. The song is usually classed as soft rock and post-disco, runs 3:49, and its music video mixes clips from A Star Is Born (1976).
