"Rock-a-Bye Your Baby with a Dixie Melody" is a popular song from 1918, with music by Jean Schwartz and lyrics by Sam M. Lewis and Joe Young. It is a show tune in the Tin Pan Alley style, with a jazz-age dance feel, and it is sung in English with lyrics. Al Jolson introduced it in the Broadway musical Sinbad at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York. He recorded it for Columbia on March 13, 1918, and his version reached No. 1 that year; the Columbia 78 was coupled with "Alice, I'm in Wonderland". An earlier performance by the Jockers Brothers took place on 27 February 1918.
Later recordings include versions by Arthur Fields (1918), Judy Garland, Connie Francis (1959), Jerry Lewis, whose recording was a Top 10 hit in 1956, and Aretha Franklin (1961). The song was also used in several films, including The Singing Kid (1936) and Rose of Washington Square (1939).
