"High Fly" (also spelled "Hi-Fly" or "Hi Fly") is a jazz instrumental composed by the American pianist Randy Weston (1926-2018) in the 1950s. Weston drew on his height of 6 feet 8 inches and on the way the ground looks different to a tall person than to everyone else. The tune was first recorded in 1958 at the Newport Jazz Festival and released on the split album New Faces at Newport, on the Randy Weston Trio side. Weston recorded it again on several later albums, among them Live at the Five Spot (1959), Tanjah (1973) and The Storyteller (2009). It is described as one of Weston's best known compositions and as a jazz standard. Many other musicians have recorded instrumental versions, including Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Cannonball Adderley Quintet and Eric Dolphy. Jon Hendricks wrote lyrics for the melody, released on High Flying with Lambert, Hendricks and Ross (1962), and vocal covers were recorded by Mel Tormé, Abbey Lincoln and Sarah Vaughan.
