Midnight Blue is an instrumental jazz blues composed by the guitarist Kenny Burrell. It was recorded on 8 January 1963 at Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs and released later that year on Blue Note as the title track of the album Midnight Blue, produced by Alfred Lion. On the album it is track 4, running about four minutes and two seconds.
Critic Scott Yanow regarded the album as one of Burrell's best-known Blue Note sessions, and NPR's 2005 Basic Jazz Library listed it among the great jazzy blues records. Elvis Costello's 1981 album Almost Blue has a cover that pays homage to the cover art of Midnight Blue, designed by Reid Miles. A 1964 version by Stanley Turrentine with Shirley Scott, Blue Mitchell, Earl May and Al Harewood followed, and later covers have been recorded by Nigel Kennedy, Lucky Peterson, the Biel Ballester Trio and the Larkster Quartet.
