"Israel" is a jazz standard by John Carisi, an instrumental composition without lyrics, described as a minor blues in D minor. It was first recorded on 22 April 1949 by Miles Davis and His Orchestra as part of the Birth of the Cool sessions, and was later issued on the single "Boplicity" and on the album Classics in Jazz (1954). Writers have noted its early use of the perfect fourth interval, most clearly in an arpeggio of three ascending fourths at bars 9 and 10. The tune is most closely associated with pianist Bill Evans, who recorded it with his Trio. Gerry Mulligan recorded it with his Concert Jazz Band on Gerry Mulligan Presents a Concert in Jazz (1961), an arrangement for which Carisi is credited. A vocal work derived from the tune, "It's Your Dance" by Meredith D'Ambrosio, appeared in 1985.
