"La Promenade" is an instrumental gypsy jazz piece composed by Stochelo Rosenberg, the Dutch guitarist born in 1968. Written in the key of E, it has no lyrics, so the melody and the interplay between the instruments carry the piece entirely. It is not a jazz standard in the sense of a widely shared repertoire piece, and its identity is closely tied to the Rosenberg family and their trio.
The original recording was made by the Rosenberg Trio with Frits Landesbergen on vibraphone in 1994. It appeared as track 4 of the album Caravan, released by Verve that same year. In this version the vibraphone joins the trio's guitars, giving the gypsy jazz idiom a different timbre. A second recording, by Romane and Stochelo Rosenberg, followed in 2000.
