Walkin' Shoes is an instrumental jazz composition by Gerry Mulligan, who is its sole writer. It was recorded in October 1952 by the Gerry Mulligan Quartet with Chet Baker and released that year on the Pacific Jazz EP Gerry Mulligan Quartet. The piece also appears as the second track on the album Gerry Mulligan Quartet with Chet Baker. It has no lyrics in its original form, and it is cited as one of Mulligan's most popular compositions.
The tune is built in AABA form. Many other jazz groups have recorded it since. Among the early versions are those by Gerry Mulligan and His Ten-Tette in 1953 and by Sal Salvador in 1957, followed by Dave Pell in 1960 and Kenny Ball in 1993. The range of later performers shows the piece's reach beyond its original group.
