"La Gitane" (also cited as "La gitane") is an instrumental gypsy jazz guitar tune in the manouche style. It was written by the French guitarist and composer Paul "Tchan-Tchou" Vidal (1923-1999), and no lyricist is credited. Vidal is placed within the gypsy jazz tradition founded by Django Reinhardt. The tune is in the key of D. Tchan-Tchou recorded it in 1964, and that recording is the original version, released on the album Guitare Party. Later versions include those by Angelo Debarre, Moreno (1996), Romane (1999) and the Diknu Schneeberger Trio (2010). The work is classed under jazz, with gypsy jazz and easy listening as its styles.
