"Oceania" is a song by Björk, written by Björk with the lyric by Sjón (Sigurjón Birgir Sigurðsson), and produced with Mark Bell. The International Olympic Committee commissioned it for the opening ceremony of the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, where Björk premiered it. Sung from the point of view of the ocean, the lyrics trace human evolution. The original recording was released on 30 August 2004 on the album Medúlla (One Little Indian), where it was the last track recorded; a promotional single followed on 13 August 2004, with a music video directed by Lynn Fox. Built from vocals by an English choir, the beatboxer Shlomo and samples of Robert Wyatt, it is an a cappella art pop piece with English lyrics.
Critics were generally positive, several naming it the best track on Medúlla, and Time called it the best Olympic theme song. It was nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the 47th Grammy Awards in 2005. The song was performed on the Volta tour of 2007 to 2008. Later versions include one for the 2012 London Olympics and one by Srbuhi Hovhannisyan on The Voice of Armenia in 2014, and E-40 sampled it.
