"Yellow" is a song by the British rock band Coldplay, released as the second single from their debut album Parachutes on 26 June 2000. The four members, Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion, are credited as its writers. The single reached number four on the UK Singles Chart and marked the band's international breakthrough. Described as alternative rock, post-Britpop and pop rock, it is built on slow verse chords whose weight is increased by the guitar riff, a contrast that gives the record its dynamic shape. Critics acclaimed it, and it was named Best Single at the 2001 NME Awards. It was also included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's "Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll" list and received heavy airplay on BBC Radio 1. The song later featured in Richard Linklater's film Boyhood (2014).
