"Lazy River" is a popular song and a jazz and pop standard. Its melody was written by Sidney Arodin, while Hoagy Carmichael provided the arrangement and modified the words, and he is credited as composer and lyricist. The song is dated to 1930, and its publication is usually given as 1931. Hoagy Carmichael and His Orchestra recorded it on 20 November 1930, and it was issued as a 78 rpm single in 1931, coupled with "Just Forget". Carmichael's orchestra soon made it a jazz standard. The melody is considered difficult, with long leaps and a wide range, yet it became one of Carmichael's biggest hits. Later recordings were made by Louis Armstrong, Bing Crosby and The Ink Spots, among many others. The Mills Brothers had a hit with it in 1941, and Si Zentner's orchestra used it as its theme. Bobby Darin's 1961 version reached No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100.
