Peggy's Blue Skylight is an instrumental jazz composition by Charles Mingus, and he is its only credited writer. Mingus is also the performer on the original recording, made on 6 November 1961. It was first released in 1964 on the Atlantic album Tonight at Noon, three years after the session, where it appears as track 4, running 9:46. The album was produced by Joel Dorn.
Later interpretations of the piece, made after its first release, include versions by Eliane Elias, by Steve Lacy and Eric Watson, by Kirk Knuffke and Jesse Stacken, and by the Mark Masters Ensemble, so the tune has continued to be taken up by players long after the original album. The circumstances of its composition are not documented.
