"My Girl" is a 1964 soul single by the Temptations for the Gordy (Motown) label, written by Smokey Robinson and Ronald White, both members of the Miracles. Robinson is credited as composer and lyricist and White as composer, and Robinson drew his inspiration from his wife, Claudette Rogers Robinson, also a Miracles member. It was recorded at Hitsville USA in Detroit in 1964 and released on December 21 that year, with "(Talking 'Bout) Nobody But My Baby" on the B-side. It was the first Temptations single with David Ruffin on lead vocal, and James Jamerson's bass opens the record.
It reached No. 1 on the US pop chart on March 6, 1965, the Temptations' first number one and Gordy's first Hot 100 number one. Cash Box called it "a pulsating, shuffle-wobble ballad". It appeared on the 1965 album The Temptations Sing Smokey, and it was re-released after the 1991 film My Girl, reaching No. 2 in the UK. Otis Redding's 1965 version was the first successful UK version.
