Hackensack is an instrumental bop tune by Thelonious Monk, written as a contrafact of the standard "Oh, Lady Be Good!". Mary Lou Williams recorded it first, on 15 December 1944 with her band. Coleman Hawkins later claimed the tune and recorded it as "Rifftide" on 23 February 1945.
Monk first recorded it on 11 May 1954 with his quintet, featuring Ray Copeland on trumpet, Frank Foster on tenor saxophone, Curly Russell on bass and Art Blakey on drums. The session took place at Van Gelder Studio in Hackensack, New Jersey, and was issued on the Prestige album Thelonious Monk Quintet (PrLP 180), later reissued as a side of the 12-inch album Monk. The tune became a staple of Monk's repertoire, appearing on the albums Piano Solo and Criss-Cross and on live recordings from Newport in 1955, with Miles Davis and Gerry Mulligan, from France, Tokyo and the Jazz Workshop.
