"Give A Little Bit" was written by Roger Hodgson for the English rock band Supertramp. Hodgson is credited with the music and lyrics, though some databases also list Rick Davies as co-writer. He first wrote the song at 19 or 20 and said it was inspired by the Beatles' "All You Need Is Love". The original recording was made on 15 November 1976 at Caribou Ranch, Colorado, and opens the album Even in the Quietest Moments... (1977). Released as a single in May 1977 with "Downstream" on the B-side, it reached number 15 on the US Billboard Hot 100, number 29 in the UK and number 2 in the Netherlands. Billboard praised its 12-string acoustic guitar, and Cash Box called it a potential pop hit. The song appeared in the film Superman (1978) and has been used in charity commercials. The Goo Goo Dolls recorded a cover in 2004 that reached number 37 on the Hot 100. Hodgson later performed it solo, as the finale of his set at the Concert for Diana in Wembley in 2007.
