Carole King (music) and Gerry Goffin (words) wrote "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" in 1960, an English-language Brill Building pop song in AABA form. The American girl group The Shirelles, led by Shirley Owens, recorded it for the album Tonight's the Night, and the single was released on Scepter in November 1960. Owens first thought the song too country until a string arrangement was added. It was the first song by a girl group to top the Billboard Hot 100, where it held the No. 1 position for two weeks, and it also reached No. 1 on Cash Box and No. 4 in the UK.
Later versions include those by Brenda Lee, Linda Ronstadt and Roberta Flack, and Carole King's own 1971 recording, which is slower and features James Taylor and Joni Mitchell on backing vocals. Amy Winehouse recorded it in 2004 for the Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason soundtrack, and the song appears in the 2013 Broadway musical Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. It was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999.
