Samurai is a song by the Brazilian singer-songwriter Djavan, who wrote both the music and the Portuguese lyrics. It was composed during the Los Angeles sessions for his album Luz, where Djavan was introduced to producer Ronnie Foster and to Stevie Wonder. The album, Djavan's fifth studio album, was released on 20 August 1982 by CBS, and Ronnie Foster is credited as its producer.
The original recording, issued in 1982 on Luz, is a duet between Djavan and Stevie Wonder, who plays the gaita (harmonica) on the track. The song is classified under the Latin and Funk / Soul genres and is associated with the styles MPB, Soul and Boogie. Among its later versions are covers by Ed Motta (1997) and Loredana Bertè (1985).
