"I've Never Been in Love Before" is a duet by Frank Loesser, who wrote both the music and the lyrics, published in 1950 by Edwin H. Morris and Company. It was written for the Broadway musical Guys and Dolls, which premiered on November 24, 1950, ran for 1,200 performances and won the Tony Award for Best Musical. The song is sung by the characters Sky Masterson and Sister Sarah Brown and follows Sky's short solo "My Time of Day". Robert Alda and Isabel Bigley are named as members of the original Broadway cast, and their 1950 Decca cast album, which includes the song, was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998.
The 1955 film adaptation, starring Frank Sinatra, Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons and Vivian Blaine, used both songs only as background music and replaced the duet with "A Woman in Love". The song became a standard, recorded early by Billy Eckstine and Bing Crosby in 1950, and later by Chet Baker, June Christy, Doris Day, Shirley Bassey, Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand (1993) and Laufey (2022). It is usually described as a swing-pop ballad with a jazz following.
