"Daybreak" is a song with music by Ferde Grofé and lyrics by Harold Adamson. Adamson later wrote words to the ballad theme of the final movement of Grofé's 1926 orchestral suite Mississippi Suite, and the resulting song was called "Daybreak". The original recording, made in July 1942, is by Tommy Dorsey and His Orchestra with a vocal refrain by Frank Sinatra, first released as the single "There Are Such Things". Harry James and Jimmy Dorsey also recorded the song that month, and all three versions reached the top 20 of the national best-seller lists, with Tommy Dorsey and Sinatra peaking at number 10 in October 1942.
Sinatra re-recorded the song on 2 May 1961 for the Reprise album I Remember Tommy, arranged and conducted by Sy Oliver. Later versions include those by Chet Baker, the Ray Charles Singers, Tony Bennett, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Al Hibbler and Meredith D'Ambrosio. The English-language song has lyrics and is a standard of the big band and vocal repertoire.
