Along Came Betty is a jazz instrumental standard composed by the tenor saxophonist and arranger Benny Golson, who is credited as its sole writer. It was first recorded on 30 October 1958 by Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers for the Blue Note album Moanin', produced by Alfred Lion, with Golson serving as saxophonist and musical director of the group at the time. On the album the track runs about six minutes and eight seconds. Having no lyrics, it rests entirely on its melody and arrangement. The piece is generally classed as hard bop and jazz, and it is regarded as one of Golson's lyrical hard bop compositions. Later recordings include versions by Quincy Jones (1959), The Jazztet (1962, with Art Farmer and Benny Golson), Jimmy Raney, Pat Martino, Archie Shepp, Marian McPartland and Willie Pickens.
