Repetition is an instrumental jazz tune in the bebop style, with no lyrics. It was written by the American trumpeter, composer and arranger Neal Hefti (1922-2008), who is known for his scores for The Odd Couple and Batman. The tune is in the key of D flat. The original recording was made in a December 1947 session by Hefti and Charlie Parker, with Parker's solo added to Hefti's orchestra. It was first released in December 1949 on The Jazz Scene, a Norman Granz compilation issued by Mercury as a limited edition of 5,000 six-disc 78 rpm sets, and was later reissued in 1953, on Clef in 1955 and on Verve in 1994. Later recordings include versions by Wes Montgomery (1961), the Clifford Jordan Quartet (1984), a trio of Roy Hargrove, Christian McBride and Stephen Scott (1995), the Joe Pass Quartet (1997), João Donato (2007) and Mika Pohjola (2016). Cecil Payne also recorded the tune for his 1976 album Bird Gets the Worm.
