Hindsight is a jazz composition by the American pianist Cedar Walton, a hard bop musician who came to prominence with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. It is an instrumental piece with no lyrics, written in the key of C as a mid-tempo swing tune in the bluesy hard bop tradition. Several of Walton's compositions became jazz standards.
The original recording was made by a quartet led by the saxophonist Junior Cook, with Walton on piano, Billy Higgins on drums and Buster Williams on bass. It was recorded on 12 June 1981 at Van Gelder Studio and released that year on the Muse album Somethin' Cookin', where it appears as track B2.
Later versions include recordings by the Kenny Barron Quintet (1991), David Hazeltine (1999), Harvey Mason (2004), Cedar Walton himself (2008), the Ben Markley Big Band (2017) and Emmet Cohen featuring Ron Carter (2018).
