"Close Your Eyes" is an English-language popular song written by American composer and lyricist Bernice Petkere (1901-2000). It was published in 1933 and first recorded that same year, on 25 July, by Freddy Martin & His Orchestra, with a vocal chorus by Elmer Feldkamp. The song became a jazz and pop standard of the 1930s.
Early recordings followed quickly, including versions by Ruth Etting and Al Bowlly in 1933. In 1934 the Comedian Harmonists recorded a German version titled "Komm im Traum". Other recorded versions include those by Tony Bennett (1954), Ella Fitzgerald (1957), Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers (1959), Oscar Peterson (1959), Peggy Lee (1963), Nancy Wilson (1964), Liza Minnelli (1996), Stacey Kent (1997) and Nellie McKay (2009). The song is also heard in the film The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971) and in the 1996 BBC series The Mrs Bradley Mysteries.
