"Save Me" is a power ballad written by Brian May, who wrote both the music and the words. Queen recorded it in the summer of 1979 in Munich, and it was released in the UK on 25 January 1980 on the album The Game and also as a single. The single peaked at number 11 on the UK Singles Chart and spent six weeks on the chart. It was Queen's first single of the 1980s, following "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and preceding "Play the Game". Freddie Mercury sang lead and backing vocals, while May played guitars, piano, synthesizer and provided backing vocals, Roger Taylor played drums, and John Deacon played bass. Reinhold Mack added additional synthesizer. The verses are in G major and the chorus in D major, and the song includes an instrumental solo. The band played it live from 1979 to 1982, and live versions appear on Queen Rock Montreal, Queen on Fire - Live at the Bowl and Greatest Hits. The music video was filmed at Alexandra Palace on 22 December 1979 and directed by Keith MacMillan.
