Summer Night is a jazz standard with music by Harry Warren and lyrics by Al Dubin, sung in English. Both writers are credited for the music and the words alike, and the song has been recorded in vocal and instrumental settings. The earliest recording the facts give is by Music in the Russ Morgan Manner, dated 11 November 1936 and issued as a Brunswick 78 rpm single, with "Better Get Off Your High Horse" on the other side.
Later vocal recordings include those by James Melton, Guy Lombardo, Enoch Light, Flora Purim, Viktoria Tolstoy and Karin Plato. The song has also drawn many instrumental versions, among them Miles Davis with Gil Evans (1963), Paul Weston, Shelly Manne and Joe Pass, which reflects its appeal to jazz players.
