"Autumn in New York" is a popular song and jazz standard with music and lyrics by Vernon Duke, born Vladimir Dukelsky. Duke composed it in 1934 in Westport, Connecticut, without a commission, and offered it to the producer Murray Anderson for the Broadway revue Thumbs Up!, which opened on December 27, 1934. J. Harold Murray first performed the song in the show. The song was not published until 1949. Richard Himber recorded it in 1934, and Frank Sinatra's 1949 version reached No. 27 in the United States. Many versions have been recorded since. Harry Connick Jr. recorded a New Orleans jazz version for the 1989 film When Harry Met Sally.
