Everybody's Song But My Own is a jazz instrumental composed by Kenny Wheeler, the Canadian-born trumpet and flugelhorn player and composer who was based in the United Kingdom. It was recorded by the Kenny Wheeler Quintet, with Stan Sulzmann, John Taylor, Dave Holland and Billy Elgart, at Barigozzi Studios in Milan in May 1987, and released in 1988 on the album Flutter By, Butterfly on Soul Note. It opens that album, runs about 9:33, and all the compositions on the record are by Wheeler. The album received four stars from AllMusic and three of four stars in the Penguin Guide. The piece is known for its melodic, open-voiced approach to the small ensemble. Later versions include recordings by Oliver Jones, the Harold Danko Trio, the Fred Hersch Trio and Tony Lakatos, as well as a version by Norma Winstone with John Taylor, released as Like Song, Like Weather.
