Toys is an instrumental jazz composition by Herbie Hancock. Hancock wanted to write a piece with the color of the blues but not its form, and the tune has marked contrasts in dynamics. The original recording was made on 9 March 1968 at Van Gelder Studio and released in October 1968 by Blue Note on the album Speak Like a Child, produced by Duke Pearson. Thad Jones's arrangements were not credited on the record, and the rhythm section features Ron Carter on bass and Mickey Roker on drums. Toys is track 4 on side two of the LP and runs 5:52. The tune is associated with the styles soul-jazz and post-bop. Later recordings by Mike LeDonne (2005), Michael Dease (2010), the Krzysztof Dys Trio (2016) and Eddie Henderson (2018) have brought it into the repertoire of other players.
