Blueberry Hill is a popular American song published in 1940 by Chappell & Company, New York, with music by Vincent Rose and lyrics by Larry Stock and Al Lewis. The first recording was made by Sammy Kaye and His Orchestra, with a vocal refrain by Tommy Ryan, for RCA Victor in 1940. That year Glenn Miller, with Ray Eberle on vocals, reached no. 2 on the Billboard pop chart. Gene Autry recorded it in 1941 for the film The Singing Hill, and Louis Armstrong's 1949 Decca recording with Gordon Jenkins reached no. 29 on the Billboard Top 40.
Fats Domino's 1956 recording for Imperial became his biggest pop hit, reaching no. 2 on the Billboard Top 40 and spending eight weeks at no. 1 on the R&B chart. It is now the best-remembered version and a rock and roll standard, ranked 82 in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs. Elvis Presley recorded it in January 1957, and Little Richard (1964) and Jerry Lee Lewis (1973) also covered it. In popular culture, the song is Richie Cunningham's favourite in the television series Happy Days, it gave its name to a restaurant in St. Louis, and it appears in the film 12 Monkeys.
