"Close Enough for Love" is a song with music by Johnny Mandel and lyrics by Paul Williams, dating from 1979. It was written as the theme song of the film Agatha, starring Dustin Hoffman and Vanessa Redgrave, and the singer on the version heard over the film's end credits was Patti Brooks. The first recording was made by Peggy Lee in May 1979 and released on her album of the same name. Andy Williams later used the title for the title song of his 1986 album. The song has since become a jazz standard, and it has been recorded by Tony Bennett, Stan Getz, Monty Alexander, Lena Horne, Shirley Horn, Dianne Reeves and Marian McPartland, among others. The later versions mentioned here come from singers and instrumentalists across the jazz repertoire.
