The Game of Love is a pop rock song in the key of E by the American rock band Santana, from their nineteenth studio album, Shaman (Arista, 2002), with Michelle Branch on the vocal. Gregg Alexander, credited as Alex Ander, and Rick Nowels wrote it, Nowels as lyricist. Alexander first recorded it with his band New Radicals, but producer Clive Davis wanted a female voice; a Tina Turner version was completed and issued on the 2007 compilation Ultimate Santana, before Macy Gray and then Branch recorded the vocal, with Branch adding rhythm guitar.
Released as a single in September 2002 and credited to Santana featuring Michelle Branch, it won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals. It peaked at number 5 on the US Billboard Hot 100, topped the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart and reached the top 10 in Canada, New Zealand and seven European countries, Santana's fifth top-10 hit and Branch's second and highest-peaking single. The music video, directed by Paul Fedor, was filmed in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood. Its opening borrows from New Radicals' 1998 song "You Get What You Give". In 2026 Branch re-recorded it as a duet with Alexander, credited as New Radicals, for her EP Everywhere and Back Again.
