"My Favorite Things" is a show tune by Richard Rodgers, with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, written for the 1959 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical The Sound of Music and published that year by Williamson Music. In the original Broadway production, Mary Martin as Maria and Patricia Neway as the Mother Abbess introduced it. Julie Andrews first performed it in a 1961 Christmas special for The Garry Moore Show and sang it again as Maria in the 1965 film adaptation, where it ranked number 64 on AFI's 100 Years...100 Songs (2004). Many of its favorite things evoke winter, such as warm mittens, packages, sleigh bells and snowflakes, which made the lyrics a holiday-season staple.
John Coltrane recorded a 14-minute version in E minor, released in March 1961 as the title track of his album. It became his signature concert song and turned the song into a jazz standard, included in the Real Book. He also performed it on Newport '63 (1963). Other versions include those by Mark Murphy, Jack Jones, Diana Ross and The Supremes, Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass (1969 single), and Chicago (2011). Ariana Grande interpolated its melody in "7 Rings" (2019).
