"Four Brothers" is an instrumental jazz standard in AABA form, composed by Jimmy Giuffre in 1947 on the chord changes of "Jeepers Creepers". It was written for the saxophone section of Woody Herman's second band, the Second Herd, made up of Zoot Sims, Serge Chaloff, Herbie Steward and Stan Getz. The four players took their light, almost vibrato-less phrasing from Lester Young, and the piece so typified the band's sound that the group became known as the Four Brothers Band. Woody Herman recorded it on 27 December 1947 for Columbia. Giuffre later recorded it in 1955 for Capitol, on his debut album, and again in 1958 on an Atlantic album, The Four Brothers Sound. Lambert, Hendricks & Ross recorded a scat version with lyrics by Jon Hendricks in 1958, and the song has since been covered by many groups.
