Dance of the Infidels is a bebop instrumental composed by the pianist Bud Powell, who is its sole credited writer. It has no lyrics. The tune was introduced at a Blue Note session on 8 August 1949, released under the name Bud Powell's Modernists, which also featured Fats Navarro, Sonny Rollins, Tommy Potter and Roy Haynes. The same session introduced "Bouncing with Bud". The recording was first issued as a single in 1950. The tune is built as a bebop head arrangement, a form suited to playing the theme and then improvising over it. Later recordings have been made by Barry Harris, Keith Jarrett and Charlie Haden, Al Haig, Pasquale Grasso and Brian Charette.
