"Move" is a bebop tune by the American drummer and composer Denzil Best, who was born in New York City in 1917 and died in 1965. It is an instrumental piece with no lyrics. The earliest recording found is by Miles Davis and His Orchestra in March 1949, with an arrangement by John Lewis. That recording was later included on Birth of the Cool, a compilation released by Capitol in 1957 that gathers the nonet recordings of 1949-1950.
Later versions include those by the Fats Navarro Quintet (1949), the George Shearing Quintet, which recorded it as "Geneva's Move" (1951), the Red Norvo Trio (1951), the Curtis Counce Quintet (1958), Lou Donaldson (1958), Art Pepper (1959), Stan Getz and Chet Baker (1992), Gerry Mulligan (1992) and Scott Hamilton (2001). Best also wrote "Wee", "Nothing but D. Best", "Dee Dee's Dance" and, with Thelonious Monk, "Bemsha Swing".
