"Out of This World" is an American popular song with music by Harold Arlen and lyrics by Johnny Mercer, written in 1944. It was introduced in the 1945 film of the same name, in which Bing Crosby dubbed the singing voice of the lead character, played by Eddie Bracken. Jo Stafford recorded the first version with Paul Weston and His Orchestra on 13 September 1944. Released as a single in 1945, her recording reached No. 9 in Billboard. Alec Wilder describes the melody as creating a modal feeling, in E-flat Dorian, with an unearthly effect. He considers it one of Arlen's most direct and deliberately unrhythmic melodies, unlike his other lyric ballads. The sheet music is in the key of E-flat. Later recordings include versions by Bing Crosby with John Scott Trotter (1944), Tommy Dorsey with Stuart Foster (1945), Gerry Mulligan (1960), John Coltrane (1962), Sammy Davis Jr. (1963), Tony Bennett (1967), Rosemary Clooney (1983) and Mel Tormé (1987).
