You Taught My Heart to Sing is a jazz standard with music by McCoy Tyner and lyrics by Sammy Cahn. The tune was first recorded in 1985 as an instrumental by Tyner and Jackie McLean. It appeared as the second track on the album It's About Time, released by Blue Note, with the session taking place in April 1985. The recording is generally classed as post-bop. Singer Dianne Reeves recorded a vocal version with Cahn's lyrics in 1988. The McCoy Tyner Big Band included the piece on its 1993 album The Journey, credited to Cahn and Tyner. Many other singers and instrumentalists have since recorded the tune.
