"Golden Earrings" is a song by Victor Young, with lyrics by Ray Evans and Jay Livingston. It was introduced by Murvyn Vye in the 1947 Paramount romantic spy film of the same name, directed by Mitchell Leisen and starring Ray Milland and Marlene Dietrich, based on a novel by Jolán Földes. The original recording was made by Peggy Lee with Dave Barbour and His Orchestra on 24 September 1947 and issued that year as a Capitol single, with "I'll Dance at Your Wedding" on the B-side. Her version reached number one on the popular-music charts early in 1948. A Billboard review of Dinah Shore's version in October 1947 called the song a "dreamy gypsy melody". Philip Furia notes its minor mode with altered second and seventh degrees, the markers of a melody meant to sound non-Western. The song has since been recorded by many artists, including Bing Crosby, Bobby Darin, Nina Simone and Willie Nelson.
