Friday the 13th is an instrumental bop piece by Thelonious Monk, written in the key of G. It was recorded on 13 November 1953 by the Thelonious Monk Quintet featuring Sonny Rollins, and first appeared on the 1954 LP Thelonious Monk Quintet Blows for LP, where it is track 1 on side A. The original album lists the title as Friday The Thirteenth. With no lyrics, the piece is a composition by a single writer rather than a standard.
Later recordings include versions by Tommy Flanagan (1978), Steve Khan (1980), Joe Henderson (1986), the Branford Marsalis Trio (1993), Lorenzo Tucci (2007) and Stephen Riley with Kirk Knuffke (2020).
