Lulu Swing is an instrumental gypsy jazz swing piece linked to Lulu Reinhardt (1951-2014), the French guitarist and composer who played with Romanesj, the Häns'che Weiss Quintett and the Titi Winterstein Quintet, and who is regarded as an archetypal figure of the 1970s German gypsy jazz school. Some listings credit the tune as traditional rather than to Reinhardt.
The earliest known performance is by the Häns'che Weiss Quintett in 1977, released on the album Fünf Jahre Musik deutscher Zigeuner, which includes a track titled "Lulu Swing". Since then the piece has been performed by many gypsy jazz and swing groups. For players, it is an instrumental swing tune in the gypsy jazz idiom, with no sung part. Its performance history therefore runs from the German gypsy jazz scene of the late 1970s to groups playing it today.
