Lyresto is an instrumental jazz tune written by the guitarist Kenny Burrell, who is credited as its sole composer. It runs 5 minutes and 41 seconds. The original recording was made on 7 March 1958 at Van Gelder Studio in Hackensack, New Jersey, with John Coltrane on tenor saxophone, Burrell on guitar, Tommy Flanagan on piano, Paul Chambers on bass and Jimmy Cobb on drums. It was first released in April 1963 as the third track of the album Kenny Burrell & John Coltrane on New Jazz (NJ 8276), produced by Bob Weinstock. The album was reissued in 1967 on Prestige as The Kenny Burrell Quintet With John Coltrane. It was the second small-group collaboration between Coltrane, Burrell and Flanagan, following The Cats. Reviewing the album, AllMusic gave it four stars and noted that Coltrane chases the groove right into Burrell's hands. Later versions have been recorded by Keith Oxman (1997), the David Reinhardt Trio (2008), the Nigel Price Quartet (2017) and Randy Napoleon (2021).
