"A Fine Romance" is a 1936 popular song composed by Jerome Kern with lyrics by Dorothy Fields. It was written for the musical film Swing Time (1936), where Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers co-introduced it. Chappell & Co. published the song in 1936. Astaire recorded a solo version for Brunswick on July 28, 1936, and it reached the charts of the day. Billie Holiday recorded it for Vocalion on September 29, 1936, and versions by Henry King and Guy Lombardo also charted. Guy Lombardo and His Royal Canadians, with a vocal refrain by Carmen Lombardo and Trio, recorded it on July 24, 1936, the earliest known recording. Later recordings include those by Count Basie with Joe Williams (1956), Mel Tormé (1956), Ella Fitzgerald, Sammy Davis Jr. and Carmen McRae, Margaret Whiting (1960), Frank Sinatra (1961), Lena Horne (1966), Kiri Te Kanawa (1993), Ann Hampton Callaway (1996) and Stacey Kent. Virginia O'Brien sang it in Till the Clouds Roll By (1946), and Judi Dench's version served as the theme of the British sitcom A Fine Romance (1981). The song is classed as jazz blues.
