"The Second Star to the Right" is a song with music by Sammy Fain and lyrics by Sammy Cahn, published in 1951. It is the opening song of Walt Disney's animated feature Peter Pan, which premiered at Radio City Music Hall on February 5, 1953, and is based on J. M. Barrie's 1904 play. The film was directed by Hamilton Luske, Clyde Geronimi and Wilfred Jackson. In the film the song is sung by an offscreen chorus, credited as The Jud Conlon Chorus and The Mellomen. The melody was first written for Alice in Wonderland, where it formed part of a song called "Beyond the Laughing Sky". On some Disneyland compilations the song is also titled "Second Star to the Right". It is an English-language song that has been recorded by many later singers, including Barbara Cook, Jesse McCartney, Kat Edmonson and Matthew Morrison, and it has also been arranged for instruments alone.
