"Can You Feel the Love Tonight" is a song from Disney's 1994 animated feature film The Lion King, with music by Elton John and lyrics by Tim Rice. In the film it accompanies a romantic scene between the adult lions Simba and Nala. It is sung mainly by an off-screen voice, Kristle Edwards, with lines by Joseph Williams and Sally Dworsky, while its opening and closing parts are performed by Timon (Nathan Lane) and Pumbaa (Ernie Sabella). John wanted a love song rather than a comic one. His version, released as a single on 2 May 1994, plays over the closing credits and appears on The Lion King: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. It reached number 14 in the UK, number four on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one in Canada, France and Panama, and spent eight weeks at number one on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. Critics called it a power ballad. At the 67th Academy Awards in March 1995 it won Best Original Song, and the same year it received a Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance and a Golden Globe for Best Song (Motion Picture).
