"Think" is a soul and funk song written by Aretha Franklin and her husband and manager, Ted White. Franklin recorded it at Atlantic Studios in New York, with Jerry Wexler as producer, and it was released as a single on May 2, 1968, with "You Send Me" on the B-side. The track, which runs 2:20, also appeared on the album Aretha Now (Atlantic, 1968). Billboard called it a "pulsating swinger" similar in feel to "Respect", and Cash Box praised its "tremendous rhythmic drive". In 1968 it reached No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on the Hot R&B Singles chart, her sixth R&B number one, and it also charted in France, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. It received RIAA and BPI Gold certifications. Franklin re-recorded it for the 1980 film The Blues Brothers and again in 1989 for the album Through the Storm. Many artists have covered it, including Joan Osborne, Adam Lambert and H.E.R., and instrumental versions by Lonnie Smith and Jimmy McGriff exist. Pitchfork ranked it No. 15 on its 200 Greatest Songs of the 1960s.
