"Hungaria" is an instrumental gypsy jazz tune. Django Reinhardt is its sole credited composer, and the piece has no lyrics. The original recording was made on 22 March 1939 in Paris by the Quintette du Hot Club de France, with Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli, and it was first released as a single. Reinhardt's compositions list notes that the melody may be drawn from a traditional pop song.
Early later recordings include versions by André Ekyan (1941) and Sarane Ferret (1942). The tune has since been recorded by many guitarists and ensembles, among them Joscho Stephan, Biréli Lagrène, Angelo Debarre and John Jorgenson. It is performed as an instrumental piece in the gypsy jazz repertoire, where it is usually played by a small string ensemble with guitar and violin.
