"Oh, Lady Be Good!" is a song with music by George Gershwin and lyrics by Ira Gershwin, written in 1924 for the Broadway musical Lady, Be Good! (book by Guy Bolton and Fred Thompson), where Walter Catlett introduced it, with Fred and Adele Astaire starring. The chorus also sang it in the 1941 film Lady Be Good, which has no connection with the musical. Early recordings were made in 1925 by Paul Whiteman, Carl Fenton and Cliff Edwards. It is counted among the jazz standards of the 1920s and has English lyrics.
Ella Fitzgerald's 1947 recording became a hit, notable for its scat solo, and in 1959 she sang it as a ballad arranged by Nelson Riddle. Other versions include those by Django Reinhardt, Benny Goodman's trio (1936), Count Basie, Artie Shaw, Charlie Parker and Lester Young, Fred Astaire (1952), Kenny Burrell, and Mel Tormé with Buddy Rich.
