Blues standard credited to Larry Davis and Joe (Joseph W.) Scott on the single. The song was reportedly written by Davis in California in 1955, and the credit was later given to Davis and Scott. It is also known as "Stormin' in Texas" or "Flood Down in Texas". Larry Davis recorded it in Houston, Texas, in 1958, releasing it as the A-side of his first single as a leader on Duke, backed with "I Tried"; it was a regional hit. It is a slow-tempo twelve-bar blues in 12/8, in the key of A flat, and Fenton Robinson provided the guitar parts. Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble recorded it in 1982-83 as the title track of Vaughan's debut album Texas Flood (Epic, 1983), adding twelve-bar solo sections to the arrangement. Angela Strehli introduced Vaughan to the song at Antone's in Austin. Rolling Stone ranked it 66th in its list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Songs.
