Katrina Ballerina is an instrumental jazz composition written by the American trumpeter and composer Woody Shaw (1944-1989), who is its only credited writer. The work has no lyrics. Shaw recorded it in 1975, and that recording was first released on his album The Moontrane, which is the earliest documented release of the piece.
Shaw returned to the work on later recordings, including one from 1981 and another from 1999. Other versions have been made by Harvey Wainapel (1994), the group Hemispheres (July 2009) and Ralph Peterson's Unity Project (2010). More recent recordings include those by Alex Sipiagin and The New Woody Shaw Quintet. The recordings span from 1975 to 2010.
